The 17th Headies Awards is set to be a grand celebration of African music, returning to Lagos, Nigeria, on April 5, 2025, after two years in Atlanta.
The 17th Headies Awards, established in 2006 by Hip Hop World Magazine, honors outstanding achievements in the Nigerian and African music industries, with a focus on Afrobeats, Afro-pop, and other genres across the continent.
Nominees
This year’s nominees showcase a mix of industry heavyweights and rising stars. Odumodublvck leads the pack with eight nominations, followed by Rema and Ayra Starr, each with seven. Tems, Shallipopi, and Kizz Daniel also have strong showings with six nominations each.
Key categories at the 17th Headies Awards include:
Artist of the Year: Davido, Ayra Starr, Asake, Rema, Tems, and Burna Boy.
Best Recording of the Year: Tems (“Burning”), Seyi Vibez (“Different Pattern”), Burna Boy (“Higher”), Ayra Starr & Giveon (“Last Heartbreak Song”), and Sarz featuring Lojay (“Billions”).
Rookie of the Year: Zerry DL, Taves, Kaestyle, and Llona.
The awards also feature international recognition, with artists like Wale, Skepta, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, and Chloe Bailey nominated for International Artist of the Year.
